Basalt is a common extrusive volcanic rock. It is usually grey to black and fine-grained due to rapid cooling of lava at the surface of a planet. It may be porphyritic containing larger crystals in a fine matrix, or vesicular, or frothy scoria. Unweathered basalt is black or grey. According to the official definition, basalt is defined as an aphanitic igneous rock that contains, by volume, less than 20% quartz and less than 10% feldspathoid and where at least 65% of the feldspar is in the form of plagioclase.

Applications of Basalt

Basalt is used in construction (e.g. as building blocks or in the groundwork), making cobblestones (from columnar basalt) and in making statues. Basalt is also good material for the production of "cast stone". Multi-vesicular basalt (pumice) is a good grinding material, used to grind metal, grinding stone, and can also be done as the industry filter, driers, catalysts and so on.

In basalt crushing plant, what we usually used in basalt mining are basalt crusher. Usually basalt is used as building materials for road, railway, runway, so we must crush basalt into such size of basalt particle.

Basalt Crushing Plant

For the basalt crushing plant, we here recommend three production lines:

  • Line 1: vibrating feeder + primary Jaw crusher + Impact crusher + vibrating screen + belt conveying system + control system;
  • Line 2: vibrating feeder + primary Jaw crusher + fineness Jaw crusher + Impact crusher (optional) + vibrating screen + belt conveying system +control system;
  • Line 3: vibrating feeder +primary Jaw crusher +Compound Cone crusher +Impact crusher (optional) +vibrating screen +belt conveying system +control system.

In the above basalt crushing plant, vibrating feeder feeds the material into Jaw crusher, and then Jaw crusher crushes it primarily. After being crushed into reasonable size, the material will be reshaped and processed by Impact crusher. Impact crusher plays the role of tertiary crushing and shaping, and then vibrating screen sieves product.

In the above basalt crushing plant, the main difference is the secondary basalt crusher: using Impact crusher, or using fineness Jaw crusher, or Compound Cone crusher. For Jaw crusher and compound Cone crusher, the working principle is plate pressing, so the percentage of stones with flaky shape, internal cracks is high. For Impact crusher, it has the functions of crushing and shaping, can make very good cubic shape; the stone materials are mainly used for highway, water conservancy, airport, civil construction etc.
